Spice up your next batch of cupcakes by adding some colour. This is so easy to do and it really dresses up your cupcakes or cakes

Here’s what you do:

Divide your frosting in to two equal parts and place in separate bowls. I have used my Butter Cream Frosting.  Using food colouring colour the frosting any colour you like, in this photo I have used blue and red to make purple, the other bowl I left white.

Holding the piping bag in one hand and using a spatula or icing knife carefully add the first colour frosting to half the bag lengthwise, meaning just the part of the bag that is resting on your hand. Once you have done this turn your bag and carefully fill the other half of your piping bag with the other colour frosting. When you are done your bag should have two
different colour sections.

Using your hand on the outside of your bag massage the icing down to push out any air bubbles and twist the top. Squeeze frosting on to a paper towel until you see both colours. Now you are ready to ice your cupcakes. Do any design you like using any tip you like. I have used a flower tip, starting in the middle and using consistent pressure working in a counterclock wise motion to achieve a flower look.

UPDATE: for a fun spin on this technique place some icing in your first colour into the bag and smash it around so all the icing is dispersed onto the inside of the bag but so when you open the bag the centre is empty (the icing should just be sticking to the sides).

Now carefully place the second colour icing into the centre of the bag. Using the same method as above begin from the centre outward in a circular motion. This also gives you two-tone icing but it is a different look.
